Fireplace Repair in Sherman Oaks, Starting Where the Fire Hit Hardest
Cracked firebrick, a split refractory panel or a damper that warped shut are the usual damage after a fire ran hot. We repair the firebox so it can hold the next one.

What's Included
Heat damage shows first inside the firebox. Masonry fireplaces get damaged firebrick cut out and reset in refractory mortar; factory-built units get panels made or listed for that model. Warped dampers are replaced or swapped for a top-sealing damper, and the smoke chamber is re-parged smooth. Every repair is quoted before work begins, with a plan for the first small fires while mortar cures.
Repairing the Firebox After a Hot Fire
The firebox takes the heat first, so it shows damage first. In a masonry fireplace, the firebrick can spall, with the face flaking off, or crack through, and the joints between bricks can open. Small cracks in the firebrick are normal wear; open joints and missing faces are not, because they let heat into the common brick behind, which is not made for it. We cut out the damaged firebrick and set new brick in refractory mortar, the kind rated for direct fire. Ordinary mortar fails here within a season. In a factory-built fireplace, the walls are refractory panels made for that model. A panel cracked through, or one with pieces missing, gets replaced with the maker's part or one listed for the unit, not patched with a tube of cement and left.
The damper and smoke chamber come next. A cast iron damper that warped in a hot fire no longer seals, and one that rusted can seize. We replace the plate and frame where we can, or fit a top-sealing damper at the crown when the throat is too damaged to hold a new one. The smoke chamber, the sloped space above the damper, should be smooth. When heat breaks its parging away, the rough brick behind it collects creosote and can crack. Re-parging with a heat-rated mortar restores it.
What Happens Before and After the Repair
Every fireplace repair in Sherman Oaks starts from a finding, an inspection photo or a note from a cleaning. The quote lists each part of the work and its price, in writing, before we begin. If the damage came from a chimney fire, we check that the flue above was cleared first, because a new firebox under a cracked liner does not make the fireplace safe. If you are making a claim, we photograph the damage before removal and keep the damaged panels or damper plate if your adjuster wants them.
Fresh refractory mortar needs time and a gentle start. After the repair, we tell you when the first fire can happen and how small it should be, usually a few low fires before a full one, so the new joints cure properly. You get photos of the finished work for the file. If the same damage returns, that tells us something else is wrong, such as burning with the damper partly closed or a draft problem, and we look at the cause rather than replacing the same brick twice.

Fireplace Repair in Sherman Oaks
Many Sherman Oaks chimneys went up in the building boom after the war and rode out the 1994 Northridge earthquake, some with repairs that only covered the cracks. A chimney fire in one of those flues often opens old damage along with new. After any fire or strong shake here, we start with a camera inspection before anyone talks about price.

Fireplace Repair in Burbank
Burbank is its own city with its own building department, so a rebuild or gas insert here is permitted through Burbank rather than Los Angeles. Many older Burbank chimneys are unreinforced brick, the type most likely to crack in a quake or a hot flue fire. We take care of the permit when a repair needs one.

Fireplace Repair in Canoga Park
Canoga Park lies a few miles from where the 1994 Northridge quake struck, and brick chimneys across the west Valley cracked, twisted or fell that morning. Many were patched rather than rebuilt. Because the neighborhood is part of the City of Los Angeles, a rebuild here goes through the city's building department, and we handle that step when a repair calls for it.

Fireplace Repair in Encino
Encino houses often have more than one fireplace, plus an outdoor fire pit or fireplace, and a fire in one flue does not mean the others are fine. When one chimney on a property burns, we look at every flue that shares the stack. The report lists each one separately, so repairs and any claim stay clear.

Fireplace Repair in Studio City
Canyon houses in Studio City often have chimneys that are hard to reach and easy to forget, sometimes with the only clear view from a neighbor's yard. After a chimney fire, the cap and crown on those stacks can hide damage for a whole season. We photograph them from the roof, since a look from the street misses too much.

Fireplace Repair in Woodland Hills
Woodland Hills sits near hills where the 2018 Woolsey fire burned, and many owners here have lived through smoke, ash and evacuation warnings. After a nearby fire, we check caps, crowns and flues for ash and ember damage even when the house itself was untouched. Factory-built fireplaces get checked against their own listing.
