Wood Stove Repair in Sherman Oaks When the Stove Ran Too Hot
A glowing stovepipe, a roar from the flue or a warped baffle means a wood stove ran hotter than it should. We check what the heat damaged and replace it before the next fire.

What's Included
A glowing stovepipe, a chalky stove top or a sagging baffle means the stove ran far too hot. We replace warped baffles, broken firebrick and flattened gaskets with the maker's parts, swap clouded or cracked glass, and replace a connector pipe that discolored or split at the seams. Clearances to walls are measured again, and you get a note on what caused the overfire.
Signs of an Overfire or a Stovepipe Fire
A wood stove overfires when it gets too much air, from a door left open, a failed gasket or an air control set wide open with dry wood. A stovepipe or chimney fire happens when creosote in the connector pipe or flue ignites. Both run very hot, and both leave marks. Look for a stovepipe that glowed red or now shows white or blue discoloring, a stove top or sides with a pale, chalky look, a baffle plate that sagged or cracked, firebrick that broke apart, glass that clouded permanently, and door gaskets that went hard and flat. If you heard a roar from the pipe and saw the pipe glowing, that was a fire in the connector or flue. Close the air control and the door, keep people back from the pipe, and call the fire department if it does not die down quickly.
After any of that, do not light the stove again until it has been looked at. The connector pipe is thin steel, and one hot fire can warp it or open its seams. The flue above it needs the same Level 2 look as any chimney after a fire.
Repairing the Stove and the Pipe
We take the stove apart as far as the maker allows. Baffle plates and boards that sagged or cracked are replaced with the stove's own parts. Broken firebrick is replaced to the stove's layout, since gaps in that lining let heat warp the steel behind. Door and glass gaskets are replaced, and cracked glass is replaced with ceramic glass cut for the door. On catalytic stoves, the combustor is checked and replaced if it broke or clogged. The connector pipe from the stove to the chimney is replaced if it warped, discolored or opened at the seams, which it usually has after a pipe fire. Clearances from the stove and pipe to nearby walls and furniture are measured again, because a stove that overfired once can do it again.
After the repair we explain what caused the hot fire and how to avoid it: dry wood, the air control used as the manual describes, and a stovepipe thermometer so you can see when it runs too hot. In Sherman Oaks, most stove repairs are finished in one or two visits depending on parts. You keep a note of the parts replaced and the cause, for your records and any claim.

Wood Stove Repair in Sherman Oaks
Many Sherman Oaks chimneys went up in the building boom after the war and rode out the 1994 Northridge earthquake, some with repairs that only covered the cracks. A chimney fire in one of those flues often opens old damage along with new. After any fire or strong shake here, we start with a camera inspection before anyone talks about price.

Wood Stove Repair in Burbank
Burbank is its own city with its own building department, so a rebuild or gas insert here is permitted through Burbank rather than Los Angeles. Many older Burbank chimneys are unreinforced brick, the type most likely to crack in a quake or a hot flue fire. We take care of the permit when a repair needs one.

Wood Stove Repair in Canoga Park
Canoga Park lies a few miles from where the 1994 Northridge quake struck, and brick chimneys across the west Valley cracked, twisted or fell that morning. Many were patched rather than rebuilt. Because the neighborhood is part of the City of Los Angeles, a rebuild here goes through the city's building department, and we handle that step when a repair calls for it.

Wood Stove Repair in Encino
Encino houses often have more than one fireplace, plus an outdoor fire pit or fireplace, and a fire in one flue does not mean the others are fine. When one chimney on a property burns, we look at every flue that shares the stack. The report lists each one separately, so repairs and any claim stay clear.

Wood Stove Repair in Studio City
Canyon houses in Studio City often have chimneys that are hard to reach and easy to forget, sometimes with the only clear view from a neighbor's yard. After a chimney fire, the cap and crown on those stacks can hide damage for a whole season. We photograph them from the roof, since a look from the street misses too much.

Wood Stove Repair in Woodland Hills
Woodland Hills sits near hills where the 2018 Woolsey fire burned, and many owners here have lived through smoke, ash and evacuation warnings. After a nearby fire, we check caps, crowns and flues for ash and ember damage even when the house itself was untouched. Factory-built fireplaces get checked against their own listing.
