Chimney Cap Installation in Sherman Oaks When the Old One Took the Heat
The cap is the first part of a chimney a flue fire reaches from inside and a wildfire reaches from outside. A warped or clogged one gets replaced before the next burn.

What's Included
Caps take heat from both sides: a flue fire from below, wildfire embers and radiant heat from above. A cap that warped, lost its mesh or packed solid with burned debris gets replaced, never straightened. Installed caps run $170 to $680, sized to the flue tile or covering the whole crown. Each one is photographed on the roof, before and after, for your file.
What a Fire Does to the Cap
A cap sits right where the flue gases leave the chimney, so a creosote fire hits it hard. Galvanized caps discolor and can warp, the mesh can burn through or sag, and the burned creosote that blows up the flue often clogs the screen. A clogged screen does two things you do not want: it chokes the draft, so the next fire smokes into the room, and it holds hot debris against the metal. Wildfire works from the other side. In a Santa Ana wind event, embers land on roofs and some fall into open flues; ash and debris pack into the mesh; and the heat of a nearby burn can soften a thin cap. After either event we look at the cap first from the roof and photograph it before it is removed, because its condition is part of the record. A blackened, bulged or split cap is also a clue for the inspection, telling us the fire reached the top of the flue.
A cap that only needs cleaning gets cleaned. A cap that warped, lost its mesh or no longer sits square goes. We do not straighten and reuse one that has been through a flue fire, because the metal has lost its temper and the fasteners are usually loose. Before any new cap goes on, the flue below it has to be cleared for use. Fitting a fresh cap on a chimney with a split liner only hides the problem, so in Sherman Oaks the cap is quoted with the inspection, not ahead of it.
Choosing the Replacement, and the Price
A replacement cap installed runs $170 to $680. The spread comes from the chimney, not from extras. A single round or square flue with a standard top gets a stainless cap that clamps to the tile, at the low end. A wide crown with two or three flues needs a cap that covers them all, mounted to the crown, toward the high end. Odd sizes, tall stacks and steep roofs add time. Every cap we fit carries spark arrestor mesh, which matters in the hills above Sherman Oaks and anywhere close to brush, because wood fires throw sparks and the mesh keeps them on the chimney. Stainless steel holds up to heat and Valley sun far better than galvanized, and it is what we recommend after a fire took the last one.
Once the cap is on, we photograph it and add it to the same report as the inspection and any repair, with the date. If you are claiming fire damage, that photo closes the loop: the damaged cap, the cause, and the replacement in one file. If you only need a cap because the old one rusted or blew off, the visit is short and the same steps apply. Either way, look at the cap from the ground after each wildfire season and after any fire you think ran hot. If the mesh looks dark and solid, call us before you light the fireplace again.

Chimney Cap Installation in Sherman Oaks
Many Sherman Oaks chimneys went up in the building boom after the war and rode out the 1994 Northridge earthquake, some with repairs that only covered the cracks. A chimney fire in one of those flues often opens old damage along with new. After any fire or strong shake here, we start with a camera inspection before anyone talks about price.

Chimney Cap Installation in Burbank
Burbank is its own city with its own building department, so a rebuild or gas insert here is permitted through Burbank rather than Los Angeles. Many older Burbank chimneys are unreinforced brick, the type most likely to crack in a quake or a hot flue fire. We take care of the permit when a repair needs one.

Chimney Cap Installation in Canoga Park
Canoga Park lies a few miles from where the 1994 Northridge quake struck, and brick chimneys across the west Valley cracked, twisted or fell that morning. Many were patched rather than rebuilt. Because the neighborhood is part of the City of Los Angeles, a rebuild here goes through the city's building department, and we handle that step when a repair calls for it.

Chimney Cap Installation in Encino
Encino houses often have more than one fireplace, plus an outdoor fire pit or fireplace, and a fire in one flue does not mean the others are fine. When one chimney on a property burns, we look at every flue that shares the stack. The report lists each one separately, so repairs and any claim stay clear.

Chimney Cap Installation in Studio City
Canyon houses in Studio City often have chimneys that are hard to reach and easy to forget, sometimes with the only clear view from a neighbor's yard. After a chimney fire, the cap and crown on those stacks can hide damage for a whole season. We photograph them from the roof, since a look from the street misses too much.

Chimney Cap Installation in Woodland Hills
Woodland Hills sits near hills where the 2018 Woolsey fire burned, and many owners here have lived through smoke, ash and evacuation warnings. After a nearby fire, we check caps, crowns and flues for ash and ember damage even when the house itself was untouched. Factory-built fireplaces get checked against their own listing.
